Renton Thurston is the son of a military researcher who died trying to save the world.

It is 10,000 years after humans have made a mass exodus into space after the arrival of the Scub Coral, an intelligent alien life form which has merged with the planet.

Renton Thurston is a fourteen-year-old boy, son of Adrock Thurston, a military researcher who died saving the world. Staying with his grandfather in a small town, he finds life extremely boring. Renton loves REFFing, , a sport that allows him to surf with a surfboard in mid-air. He dreams of joining the rebel group aircraft group Gekkostate to surf the skies.

Renton’s big chance appears when a large mecha called the Nirvash typeZERO crashes into his house and he meets the pilot Eureka, a member of the Gekkostate.
